The charm of a millenary Abbey
An ancient abbey dating back to the 12th century, which was in turn founded on an ancient Roman villa. The Abbey was built by William, a young hermit and pilgrim who came from Santiago de Compostela and was on his way to the Holy Land. Originally it was composed of two convents: the female one and the male one but who commanded were the abbesses; in fact, the monks were employed in the humblest jobs. The majestic walls of the Abbey rise between lonely countryside, in an Irpinia area with an evocative flavor; all to discover. Spirituality, mysticism and legends meet in this unique place of its kind. The large open-air church is spectacular: many argue that its majestic architecture would be the perfect location for a play.
